It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by Long and Short Reviews.
Today’s topic is: Books I Read on Someone’s Recommendation
The first ones that popped into my head were recommended to me by my kid:
The Divergent Series by Veronica Roth
Despite knowing that Tris dies in the final book, I went ahead and read these, partly because of the movies (which were abysmal, but that’s another story). I remember when the kid finished “Allegiant”, she came to where I was working, collapsed in a puddle on the floor and sobbed.
And then stated I had to read them. I did. The books were good, though Tris’ death was stupid and served no purpose (unlike, for example, Prim’s death in Mockingjay…that was necessary to forward the plot).
The Mortal Instruments series and The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare
This is quite likely my kid’s favorite series. Of note: she despises both the original movie “City of Bones” *and* the TV series “Shadowhunters” as they stray exceptionally far from the storyline in the books. I’ve honestly only read the first book in each series at this point, but I will say they are very interesting, exceptionally complex and exceedingly well written.
Now … on my TBR list via her recommendation is…
The Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco
And, actually, I’m doubly determined to read this because the reviewer at LASR also enjoyed it.
This brings me to another topic… buying books based on reviews. I’ve done this a dozen times (don’t tell me reviews don’t sell books. WELL written reviews absolutely do–not “I liked it” but reviews that tell WHY they enjoyed something). I suppose that counts as a “recommendation”, too. Yes? I honestly don’t remember them all, but I know they’re sitting there, on my Nook, must waiting for me to read them.
Do you have any books to recommend? I read in nearly every genre … 🙂
